I have mentioned some of these before in other contexts, but:

Shared an elevator with Henry Kissinger when he visited my offices in London.

Called out Dustin Hoffman 'You dirty motherfucker, do that in your own country' when he gobbed on the floor while we were both window shopping in South Molton street one night.
(I recently found out that he is an extremely nice guy and a great pianist from my osteopath who is treating us both, so I have changed my opinion).

Bumped into Dr Ruth as she was leaving the Grand Hyatt on 42nd st in NY. She accepted my apology gracefully.

Bumped into Jackie Mason and knocked him over on 57th St. He called me a string of colourful names and since he had minders I let it go.

Met Dolly Parton when my wife was working in Saks, Beverly Hills. She is a lovely lady.

Ditto Loretta Swit, nasty luvvy has-been.

Sat next to Paul Michael Glaser in a diner in Brentwood. Later found out he had aids so I took three showers (j/k)

Chatted up Britt Ekland at the Camden Palace, London. Unsuccessful, got asked to "go forth and multiply" by her goons.

Got invited to Kevin Schwantz's birthday party at a pub in Kent, before he moved back to the USA. (Met other more minor bike racers at various times).

Can't think of any others at the moment, haven't slept much in the last 72 hours.

Oh, just remembered, had a chat with Peter Fonda in a restaurant in Venice, Italy. My g/f had put lipstick on me earlier so he did give me a strange look but he was a nice guy and I told him that I had a poster of him and Dennis Hopper in 'Easy Rider' on my wall for years when I was a kid. He looks unbelievable for his age.
And I said hi to Paul Mc Cartney on the same trip- he's very self important, don't like the wanker at all.

Reuters filmed an interview with Heather Small ( M People) in my building in The City a few years back. She really is small, but an extremely nice person. (She was very complimentary about my kids whose photos were hanging on the walls).

When I was a teenager I found her unconventional appearance strangely attractive. I will leave it at that!

Over the course of my lifetime I have met a few celebrities. My favorite was Dan Blocker, "Hoss Cartwright" from the old TV series, "Bonanza". A very genuine guy.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

The ones I have met have been pretty much all connected with politics. I got into a shouting match with William Bennet , former 'drug czar' and current talk show host, over legalizing drugs, which resulted in the local paper writing an editorial the next day blasting "an unidentified local man" which happened to be me, over my rudeness to this steaming asshole. Had a nice chat with Wesley Clark at a small resturant in Manchester, NH during the 2000 New Hampshire primary, with the subject being what a douchebag George Bush was. Had a fairly long conversation with Howard Dean at a fund raiser in Houston that began when I told him my dad was a Vermont resident - Dean seemed real lonely for Vermont and really wanted to talk about where my dad lived and people we knew in common. I also knew Jim Wright, the Speaker of the House during the 1980's fairly well, he was a long time friend of a relative of mine, even had dinner with him a couple of times. The only celebrity I have met was Cybill Shepard, who is from Houston. We stumbled upon each other at an antique store in Houston. She is (or was at that time, probably 20 yrs ago) an extremely attractive woman, but she does have really small tits. We made passionate love in the Ladies Room, but after that, she dumped me for Bruce Willis.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

Funniest magazine interview I ever read (and still remember in a vague sort of way) was (I believe) National Lampoon interviewing Dan Blocker shortly after his death. Went something like this..

NL: Dan, what's it like working with a teen idol like Michael Landon?

Dan Blocker:

NL: Do you see "Bonanza" as a marketing vehicle that can carry you into the forseeable future?

Dan Blocker:

NL: What is Lorne Greene like as a person?

Dan Blocker:

Funny stuff when you're a teenager.
