wheel hubs

This isn't about my benzo but this forum is so much better than my grand prix forum (where I didn't get any help). Guys on that forum know a lot about modding L32s and L67s but aren't as on top of the repairs. On top of it all they're jerks. Thread jacking is a serious offense that will get you ostracized. At any rate, I've got a creaking noise coming from the front of my Grand Prix whenever the car pitches up, I take a hard turn or hit a pothole. It gets worse with a lot of city driving. The stealership told me it was the wheel hubs (which include bearings on this car) and wanted 950 bucks to fix it. Needless to say I opted for doing it myself. But it seems like a bad bearing would make a repetitive noise as opposed to what I've got going on. Any opinions? Also, someone was telling me that if I changed the wheel hubs myself I would need to have the rotors realigned. Is this the case and if so would it be safe to drive it a mile or so to the mechanic to get it done?

On a Benz, replacing the wheel hub is easy but a creaking noise is most likley not a wheel hub no matter what car you drive.
I say check your suspension components including rubber pieces if your springs rest on one for example.

Why would a rotor need alignment? Typically when you slide a rotor over the hub it should fit and if held by screws (the case with the benz) then there is no balancing needed. Notice I used the word balancing because that's what a disk would need if any.
Maybe they meant wheel alignment? In that case you are better off taking it for a front alignment only if you mess with the suspension; replacing the bearings and hub should not effect alignment (again that's the case with a benz).

That's a front wheel drive no? I'd look at the CV joints, inner and outer plus the engine/transmission mounts and the rack.

Ball joints (notorious creakers)
Outer CV joints (serious culprits, if sharp turns precede the creaks)
Strut mount bearings (creakers and squeakers)

I highly doubt the hubs (wheel bearings) would creak

Raise the front of the car and move the struts at the top a little, then drive it again and see. Before this try silicone spray on top of the strut. IF all this fails replace struts. If you have a base suspension GM you are guaranteed the shocks and struts are pure shit.

I'm sure you are right, but every domestic FWD car I've been in has done this after a while. I think it's normal

Yep, my wife's Voyager creaks in the front once the strut bolts get loose. I have to tighten them once every six months to have a civilized ride. The problem is that they are not accessible unless I remove the whole windshield wipper mechanism.
One day I will buy a new car if everything on it is accessible but then again that's never going to happen anyway
