Thumbs up The point!

We appear to have been distracted by other fascinating works around the world but coming back to the original topic - what are your general views on Wright's work, 'Fallingwater' in particular especially if you have been there - did it meet your expectations, etc?

Never liked it, trying too hard to be radical & new & different, a traditional wooden chalet type building, or indeed even an avant garde ? wooden building would have looked much better, mellowed with the ages / grown into the landscape.
And regarding the Sydney Opra House, Ok it looks magnificent, but it was a complete nightmare to build, and as "on budget" as the Millinium Dome,( and the 2012 Olympics) and I understand the acoustics were/are crap.
I have to say I admire Norman Foster's ( and his associates ) work and at least it appears to work.
Cheers

Though I driven past it a few times, I've never been inclined to visit the Rosenbaum home for the fact that a home that never could hold out water never impressed me much. So, I can't imagine going out of my way visiting Falling Water. Sorry.

It's not a very functional house for living. Small closets and rooms among other things. It was designed in a hurry and not well thought out. Looks great, but doesn't really work well, kind of like using a Cadillac for a lawn tractor.

My own backyard rendition of Falling Water is a very moving experience.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

heh, heh.....Badgers are a protected species in the UK, if you were "flashing" at them like you appear to be in your photo, you would be fined and put away on charges relating to gross indecency and causing undue duress! heh, heh....

But as one gains more insight into the art of building, one comes around to realize how extraordinary his achievements are in terms of making buildings that actually work for the clients and the users.

Call me crazy but I prefer his Bank of China Building in Hong Kong over Lord Foster's HSBC Building of the same city. If I have to see these building everyday, I think BoC will continue to fascinate me while HSBC will lose its high tech wow factor after a week.
