'Thank God lack of character is not contagious,' is the one positive thing to say about the corrupt and disreputable Chalabi.
Iraq is far away from anything remotely resembling a democratic form of Government.
It will take another ruthless bastard to disarm the various factions, and reduce the influence of the clergy.
Ali Baba has left, but the 40 thieves are still there.
No absolute monarchy but a Constitutional Monarchy

I mean would you watch a sequel of Lawrence or Arabia with Rice going from one camp to another then gets ass raped by the Turks or something?
drewprof,
What I am suggesting is that the Iraqi people chose a Constitutional monarchy such as in Jordan.
This would not be moving backwards but securing a viable monarch that would be ready to led the nation and mend the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people and the people of Iraq and chose their own government representatives and Prime Minister.

What works for Jordan will not work for Iraq. Family members of the present Jordanian king ruled Iraq but got slaughtered for a reason just ask Colonel Qassim if he's still around, oh no he himslef got killed by Baathists my bad
Iraq always needed a ruthless strongman. If you can get the "king" to be just that then maybe you got a chance but I don't think this guy can do it.

drewprof,
Yes, I am fully aware of the actions of Colonel Abdul Karim Qassim overthrow of the Monarchy of Iraq on July 14, 1958.
The royal families of Iraq and Jordan are related and if Iraq is to have any ally in the region the most viable solution would be Jordan.
Why are thousands of Iraqi people fleeing Iraq and moving to Jordan and a smaller number to Syria?
The economy, religious and human rights are sustained in the Kingdom of Jordan.
I suggest that the process starts with us and other people that join in this discussion to suggest possible people that are Iraqi that can gain the support of the Iraqi people.
History has shown in South Africa that from the past apartheid government the people have moved forward to success with great leadership.
A Nelson Mandela that is Iraqi can lead the nation.
The question is who is that person?
I have suggested an inspirational person that has the education and as well the connection to build a viable nation and unite the people of Iraq such as Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein.
There has to be an alternative because and he or she must be discussed and then the information will spread as a grassroots and Iraqi Americans will discuss this issue with their families and the news shall travel worldwide and to the masses in Iraq.
As each day passes here in Baghdad, Iraq where I am currently located I hope that peace can be brought to this nation as the people of Iraq deserve as do we to live in peace and harmony. I have been living here in Iraq for 14 months and I do hope from all the hard work from U.S., Coalition forces and Iraqi Securiry Forces that when it is time for me to leave this nation that it will have a brighter future.
Respectfully,
James Van Thach

Part of being independent and free is the ability to decide who will lead us and represent us. I will not allow an Iraqi to dictate who I should vote for as much as I would hate to do that to the Iraqis.
Hey James.....forget Iraq's interest for the moment........what are you doing in Iraq and what makes you the authority on suggestions for leaders to rule Iraq? Your constant reference to Nelson Mandela/Aparthied is totally out of the context for the current fiasco in Iraq! Basically, you appear to be geared for a similar Saudi DICTATORSHIP for Iraq in order that the likes of you can reap the benefits afforded by supporting a stooge like Sharif Ali!
Look at what's happening in Afghanistan? The stooge Karzai is doing a fantastic job - healthy swiss account balance, total chaos with zero infra-structure development and Taleban on the rising! But since Afghanistan offers no financial benefit (OIL!) and is a liability in terms of foreign trooops occupation, it is on the back burner as far as the West is concerned BUT Iraq has a resource of wealth (OIL!) to plunder and thus the continued illegal occupation irrespective!
As someone suggested, why don't you let the Iraqi masses decide what or who they want to decide their future?

Excellent points!
Where did you get information that Karzai has some fat Swiss bank accounts?
