True that! But it's still good to see W doing better than something...

If there was any money, it would go back to a general fund wouldn't it? Since we're running at a deficit, there is no money, so it doesn't matter.....

Is there some reason we're not building the fence other a shortage of cheap labor?

But seriously, no further immigration bills should be considered until the fence is built, doesn't that make sense? Or was there some "we changed our mind our mind about the fence" bill I missed?

The two parties are working at different purposes but the result is a collusion to allow the employment and naturalization of illegal aliens. They simply cannot help themselves.

Take the Republicans. Ordinarily their broadest appeal is to folks who have a national security interest, but the Republicans are whores to wealthy industrialists and large corporations who don't give a shit about the United States other than how it affects their profits. So the Republicans are stuck in a classic hypocritical conundrum of wanting lots of cheap labor for their masters while maintaining an appeal to the national security folks.

Take the Democrats, who have never found a ethnic group they wouldn't give a BJ to. The Hispanic vote is the motherload and the naturalization of illegals is another untapped vein. Yet the masters of the Democrats is Big Labor. So the Democrats are stuck in a classic hypocritical conundrum of wanting to suck-up to the Hispanic vote and to capture the naturalized citizens for their ethnic constituencies while maintaining an appeal to the their Big Labor masters.

The losers are the usual suspects -- the rest of us.

Oh believe me, I see it here in AZ on a day to day grassroots level. There are laws on the books, but little enforcement, and even less punishment. Our famous sheriff, Joe Arpaio, created quite a controversy here when he started enforcing a new law designed to curb illegal immigration in a way other than it was intended -- he actually began charging the illegals themselves with crimes (gasp!). If drug laws were similarly enforced, police would put out joints with squirt guns, then take you home to mommy and daddy for some ice cream and cookies.

They also enforce laws against hiring here, but put very little effort into finding the perps, who risk little more than losing a business license if caught multiple times.

One of the best things about this country is the ideas underlying our Congress.

One of the worst things about our country is what we've allowed those ideas to devolve into, and significantly, some of the jackals we've allowed to remain in what should be an august body.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
