Oh I agree with you FTL, I beleive the inflation numbers right now are being manipulated and once they tell the truth, those inflation figures will be off the charts.......

Using food to make gasoline is the stupidest idea to come down the pike in eons. What we need to do is tax the shit out of gasoline and subsidize clean diesel. We can make all the diesel fuel we need from coal, and we have more coal than anyone else on the planet.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

And how nice for them that they are able to do it simply by making Soviet-style command economy decisions on the supply of gasoline.
And has our government been paying farmers NOT to plant peanuts and corn for decades?? Now that there will be a demand for corn, I say we end this practice, NOW!

Very true at least Brazil used sugar cane that is lot more efficient in making ethanol but the corn lobby is a storng bunch. I heard a statistic the other day that 30% of the congressmen in office now have kids who are registered lobbyists. Makes me fucking sick......

What was really ridiculous was the person talking about this said that (I honestly do not remember which one he siad) but he said either Pelosi or Hary Reid has 3 children who are lobbyists...... talk about trading on daddy's name....is there any pride left in today's youth in the States?

EXACTLY, What a fuckin' moron "W" is. Using ethanol will definitely increase price of ALL foods, from cereals, to milk, to meat and the list goes on and on. He may decrease the cost of oil and may also decrease the oil consumption or even decrease an atom worth of our dependence on foriegn BUT HE WILL END UP STARVING US. "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING YOU DUMB FUCK, Looser son of a fuckin' bitch MR. President?!"

No but the white house is further pushing to increase the use of ethanol. This would put the bastard in bed with all of the ones who are at fault and makes Bush their leader and a criminal by using the white house to further their cause

Although I agree about the "moron" this is not a case of W's idiocy. This is a case of big corporations looking at the bottom line and getting government to support their monopoly. W is getting his piece, I guarantee that.

Do you think Bush just chose Corn randomly? Or maybe he owes money to the corn mafia and they have come to collect.

How about looking at the fact that there is already an infrastructure to support the production and distribution of corn based ethanol. How about the fact that we grow significant amounts of corn. How about the fact that we pay our farmers not to grow corn. Or how about the fact that there is more farmable land to produce corn than there is Sugar Cane for instance.

You guys on this board crack me up. You know if Bush said we were going to use Sugar Cane vs. corn you would all be screaming how he was replacing our dependence on foreign oil with dependence on foreign Sugar Cane.
