4x4 tire

how much does it cost if you buy a 4x4 tire?

I am planning to buy an extra tire for my car!

I think that would be expensive!

You're right, 4x4 tires are quite expensive. You might be able to save a bit by getting a 1x4 or 3x4 tire - the odd numbered tires are usually less expensive than even numbered ones. 2x4 tires are the same as 4x4, but usually cost even more because you need half as many.

If your car has a fifth wheel, then getting a 5x4 tire would be the best bet. Otherwise, just getting the fourth tire is probably the best bet - it will keep your brakes & suspension from grinding along the ground as you drive back and forth to the votech school.

You may want to ask the guys in the Tirerack forum about getting a 1x4, 3x4, or 5x4 tire. Make sure you don't tell them what kind of car or wheels you have, because they'll just use that information against you to recommend a more expensive tire than you need.

If you have black paint, you can use that instead. It takes a little while, but if you put enough coats on the wheel, it works just like a tire. Make sure you let it dry all the way before you put the next coat on, then bake the wheel with the paint on in your oven for about 12 hours at 350 degrees to make the paint cure. Should make a real good bond during this process.

Again, pose this question in the Tirerack forum, since they would know best about odd-numbered tires and using paint as a tire-substitute.

When I have to buy tires, it's a reminder to check the little odds and ends like blinker fluid (front and rear), and the main muffler bearings on my car. You can usually do this yourself, but most mechanic shops will look at it for free since it only takes them a few minutes with the right tools.
