Very interesting.

I kept thinking this would make a funny movie maybe starring Joe Pecsi about a couple of lovable goofs that get the idea to unearth and steal the car before it's time. then hold it for ransome. afterward they find out it actually belong to joe's grandfather and he decides to keep it. whatdya think? anyway thanks.

Yeah, the car didn't age well. Under a ton of dirt and mud for 50 years, wrapped in a Tarp. Go figure.

I fucking hate Boyd Coddington.

That's a shame. If Tulsa is anything like Omaha, no one would have known the car wasn't brand new anyways...

Oh well, interesting idea, poorly executed.

They put 5 gallons of gas and 5 quarts of oil into the time capsules, just in case gasoline and oil weren't commonly available anymore. I guess people hadn't been using gas long enough to know that it wouldn't store very well in a metal container, either.

I'm betting it was more of a publicity stunt for the manufacturer or a local dealer than it was a quaint sociological exercise of some kind.

Water got inside the bunker. Car is gone. Humidity alone can ruin a car's metal surfaces enough to total it after 20+ years. My automotive business partner and I collect and sell very low mileage cars. Some are 30+ years old with only 500 miles on them. Take a look at the links below for examples. Age matters less than care and manner in which it was stored.
