Unfortunately they didn't so we're screwed now.
That would be true no matter what. America for Americans. If we are asked for assistance in a finite and specific capacity, we should weigh our options carefully; if we are not, we should mind our own business and tend to our own. Once we adopt that posture as general policy, I believe our standing in the world community will rise dramatically.

More money gets pumped into Baltimore city then any other area of Maryland, the greatest percentage of it comes from Montgomery County, where I live. Throwing money at a problem as has been done in that God forsaken city for years and nothing has come of it. where would you like to waste some more?
You want to blame people fine, blame the State politicians that have been in office for so many years their butt print will NEVER leave the seats they have been parked on.
The same holds true, if not more so, with the Federal Government. Get rid of the Kennedy's and Byrds, among others, and maybe we can get somewhere.

You may be right, but isn't that exactly what we did just before WWII? It didn't get us very far did it..........

We are the world's only superpower, and I would love to keep it that way; this is a very different time than the period you cite. The post-WWII era is also over, Japan and Europe don't need our resources to defend themselves. I know I've whistled this tune before, but lay out $15 for a copy of Blowback by Chalmers Johnson. It's a short, but incredibly insightful read that, ironically enough, was published just weeks before the 9/11 attack. Thus it is not an indictment of either Bush or Iraq, though the general subject certainly speaks to our role in the Middle East.

Actually Baltimore's problem is local. The city is staffed with idiots and like you said no matter how much money from Montgomery County we eat up we will never solve our problems. I also lived in Montgomery County and I know how you feel.

U.S. strengthens support of Abbas in Gaza

U.S. strengthens support of Abbas - Focus on Israel/Palestinians - MSNBC.com

A little too late don't you think? Well at least someone woke up in our administration and realized how we handicapped Abbas

Part of the reason for the handicap is that there is a law preventing the government and American business from relationships with groups that are designated as terrorists. Hamas is on that list. Who put Hamas on there? I don't know, but it is easy to see why: They intentionally and randomly target innocent civilians for murder to effect a political end.

Maybe Congress should revisit the utility of that law as it maybe too general in scope and too restrictive in application. That would be a political decision and the ruling party in Congress could take it up at their discretion.
