I've been predicting events in Iraq pretty much on the money for the last three years. How's yours working out?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

My statments pre-invasion were as such:

I said it was a shitty choice to have to make but I expected we would find WMD's.

I am not overly surprised by the current situation. There are a number of reasons for the current situation but it is a damn shame we did not learn the lessons from WWII in dealing with the indigineous populations. Not saying the situation would be much better but I think if we had done the job right it would be better.

I think the Lebanese will in the end contain the situation. No civil war in Saudi Arabia and no civil war in Kuwait. The palasiniens will continue to be an issue on a low simmer/boil that will not result in all out civil war but will continue to see Hamas gains.

Only time will tell which one of us is correct.

I'm about to put another notch on the stock marked "surge". So far it has not brought stability and is instead increasing the violence, while our own causalities are dramatically increasing, just as predicted. Too little, too late. The Iraqi Parliament is in a state of collapse, with all bills that would move the country forward being blocked, from the oil law to something simple like just collecting taxes, the thing is a failure, for the same old reason: these people do not want to live together. My newest prediction, that Northern Iraq is about to explode in an orgy of violence as Sunni insurgent groups begin receiving support from both Syria and Turkey while an ever-greater supply of jihadists and Arab nationalists enter Iraq in the same way they did when the Soviets occupied Afghanistan should come true over the next few months.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. You are spot on with the above statement. No arguments here.

Oh why do you think Israel pulled its settlers from Gaza? Let me guess, to give the Palestinians more land, right?
Actually we DID recognize the election, that's why we stopped giving them money. We were working although poorly with Fatah, they elected Hamas. We don't deal with Hamas period. Maybe somebody else should step up to the plate like Iran??????
