What is going on in France?

Taken from a BBC article I was reading.

Bot

Mr Sarkozy has said he will hold a special session of parliament in July to initiate his first set of political reforms, which include tougher immigration rules and more freedom for universities.

A new finance bill will mean that overtime earnings are no longer taxed, inheritance tax is abolished for most people and overall individual taxation is capped at 50%.

I have never followed the French political climate closely enough to understand it, even partially. Sarkozy sounds like a rightwing conservative to me, so didn't he defeat a leftwing or socialist in this last election? I do recall that Mitterand was a socialist, but I don't know who the last prime minister or president of France even was. My apologies for being ignorant!

The complete bastard to whom you were referring was the anti-American pissant Jacques Chirac. He was only President for 12 years, so I can understand why you may not have remembered his name.

Oui mon ami, Chirac est le cochon! Thanks for the info Cubancigar. Since you opened the door, as I was hesitant to do earlier, our froggy friends are not one of my favorite groups of people.

Mr. Sarkozy seems to be an actual conservative of the type the GOP has pretty much run off. Instead of proposing ruinous foreign adventures and tax cuts financed by theft of the national treasury through debt, Sarkozy intends to pay down the national debt of France and to make necessary reforms. I used to vote for Republicans like that, back in the days before they became a bunch of fucknuts religious kooks and war criminals.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I am over in France as we speak(ok as we type). I had forgotten how much I hate this lazy, line breaking, nasty no count country.

My family is stranded in the south of france due to a local rail strike. I am in Le Mans and there is not squat I can do to help them. Add that to the fact I stepped in one of the ample piles of dogshit last night and a Frenchman tried to steal my cab I had waited in line for 25 minutes for. Can you tell I am not happy with the French right now!
