I hit a piece of angle iron about a foot long, that someone thoughtfully left on the Washington Beltway a few weeks ago. The tire was sliced in two places through the center of the tread, I saw what it was as it went flying through the air. Luckily no one was along side me or it could have taken out that car as well.
I was driving a company Blazer, and the tire was completely flat by the time I crossed two lanes and got to the shoulder. That was a straight line drive by the way, with lots of braking.
When I got a good look at the tire I couldn't see how bad the damage was other then being flat. When they pulled the tire you could see two cuts, one four inches long and one two inches long, and both were in line with the grooves in the tread.
Point is neither cut was near as clean as the cut on that rim. lots of stray wires were all over the inside of the tire around the cuts.
If that was cut, it was by something very sharp.
