That Americas Cup yacht racing thing...

Seems my home country heroes should win the Louis Vouitton cup...

ABC News: New Zealand Leads at Louis Vuitton Cup

The race tonight could confirm Team Emirates New Zealand as challenger for the big one.

Apparently the Americas cup holder 'Alinghi' (of Switzerland) are streets ahead on speed compared to any other boat due possibly to some moveable thingys on the 'bulb'.
Any input?...such mods must surely break race rules.

They were racing aganist a spanish club the other day and they didn't do that well, I think their boat is good but not unbeatable particularly if we pick the right side of the course I think it will come down to tatics as much as boat design, not like the last race we should have lost that but we got lucky.

They were test racing against the Alinghi syndicate (prior to the Louis Vouitton finals), but with both teams in old boats. The new Alinghi boat has the movable 'thingys' and is reputed to be really really fast...but I feel a court dispute coming on.

A decent F-31R with 3-4 crew would likely shame them all around the course.

I just don't get it.

Some will go to any length to develop the slowest possible boats, while Capt. Nat was almost run out of New England for trying to show the way back in 1876.

Maybe monohulls are just better, though not for going fast.

Damn the Amaryllis for not being a "racing yacht".

Man those guys are focussed!.
It was great to see their emotions finally let loose after their win of the Louis Vouitton Cup today, and now they have a day or so to lose the hangovers and reset their heads.
I see the Americas cup as right at the top of ultimate - damn the expense professional sport, but understand how when the losers flags stop flapping - their supporters interest disippates faster than a high windy day fart.
GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND!.
