I'll happily regurgitate this thread as updates occur, but not in any way to insinuate that Americans are losers....unable of winning the semi-final of a water/wind blown ...(cough) race that has a cup named after them these days.
Meantime...shit, I HATE Winter, and it's only been here 1 week.

GO TEAM NEW ZEALAND!.

Well, my comments were not related to any disinterest that may have come from America's abysmal showing in this year's race.

My comments were more to the point that multihulls are faster. Much faster. And MUCH more exciting to watch.

Spending millions so that we can all watch linebackers and rugby champs sweat at the winches, making the slowest possible boats go, well.... not quite so slow, seems pointless. It makes Americans yawn at the sheer dullness of sailing. Apparently you find it interesting, but it is what's wrong, and why most people are not interested in sailing.

I hear the French are quite accomplished multihull sailors, and there's a certain Brit chick who can make a trimaran go fast as well.

Congrats to NZ on having, so far, the fastest incredibly expensive slow boat in the challenge!

Yachting is boring as all fuck - akin to train spotting ( a Pom. hobby amongst the Anorak wearers), surfing competitions, watching anything on tv fronted by Martha Stewart, or reading a book on the dynamics of snails.
Except if your team is on a winner, and the races are televised.., oh - and if your team is racing for the biggie.
I even watch replays of Indy car races, a bloke called Scott Dixon is also from Kiwi sheep shagger country.

Bertarelli took Dalton's remarks, about their being "zero, or very few good sailors in Switzerland" as a personal sleight.

Bertarelli - aside from being a very rich man - is also a sportsman, and Team New Zealand* would not even be his opposition in this upcoming Americas cup series but for his financial loan (since repaid) that enabled * to keep together and rebuild after the last Auckland fiasco.
Words are cheap, but recognising that your strongest potential opposition needs help to make a worthwhile challenge against you possible...hell the man deserves a medal.

Team Emirates New Zealand= 2 - Alinghi =1.
That last race was a bloody cracker, one of the best ever according to most commentators.
I thank God for breakfast television replays...but hate the interruption ads.
Seems Alinghi is a slightly faster boat up against a team of slightly better sailors....rivetting stuff.
