I am still waiting for someone to show me that there are people who claim the war on terror is a figment of W's imagination. We all know the threat of terrorism is real, what we differ in is our approach to handling it. For instance, some people think the best idea is to attack the actual terrorists who perpetrated 9-11 where ever they are, and kill them. Others think terrorism is better fought by murdering women and children in Iraq. Such a conundrum. Such a difficult choice.

It is sad that the rightwing has lost the struggle with logic and reason, and it's stooges are now reduced to posting bullshit threads with strawman arguments meant for the consumption of those whose thinking does not go much beyond nodding yes to Rush Limbaugh. Like our own Bush stooge Jaywhak. Fucking whore.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

Clearly that statement was just meant to instigate more derogatory comments by others.
One, It makes no sense because they don't raise goats in downtown Baghdad.
Two, There is no occupation if the ruling body of the country "occupied" wants us there.

I gave you credit for some intelligence and common sense, but I have to ask you: What kind of stupid comment was that?

For those here who still believe that terrorism is a figment of our President's imagination, here are a few more things not to worry about:

I think the problem come from a level of cynicism toward the DHS and Justice in their previous Press Conferences which have featured hyperbola and ‘could haves’. The sentient phrase from the NYPD report is “Police say the men never got their hands on explosives or funding and lacked the technical expertise to attack JFK airport's fuel tanks and underground pipeline.”

So maybe this was the real deal and maybe it wasn’t. Since we have had so many misleading “big arrests” and “breaking up of cells” that have turned out to be nothing more than massive spin, we will really never know if the NYPD and FBI really did a good job or if the spinmiesters got hold of it and made cotton candy…all sugar and no substance.

UM, you might want to go back a couple of weeks and read the newspapers [both left and right covered it] where a majority or the Iraqi parliament voted in favor of the US leaving with a 56% majority. They have a second vote on that coming up at the end of June [if they don't take their two month vacation] as the PM dumped quorum as the vote was ending.

Didn't we order them to not do that vacation thingie?

Great god almighty, I hope they want us to leave. It would be a freaking tragedy if anybody in Iraq wants us to stay.

If you can see past the choice of words, what about FTL's post is inaccurate? The "War on Terror" never had anything to do with Iraq until we occupied the place. We are now training generations of future Al-Qaeda fighters to terrorize us and the rest of the free world by staying where, as McBear pointed out, we are not wanted with no specific mission. When will have trained enough of them to feel like we should be reevaluating our strategy and tactics?

The point is, we should have killed Ossamma and the Taliban tools that were supporting him in short order after 9-11. And any others who either tried similar acts of violence against the US or were caught planning to do so. Inventing a new front on the war on terror in Iraq was horrifyingly stupid. And, to ignore Al-Qaeda's figurehead and operations outside Iraq to focus our limited military resources on the figment of W's imagination, that Saddam and Iraq were some kind of worthy players in the WOT, has proven nearly equally unsupportable. Yet you support the spinning of facts into stories to deflect criticism from the man in charge, and the continued expenditure of American lives and treasure merely to maintain W's facade of credibility. Sad, really.
