No trouble with Norwalk virus? That was a big thing with the cruise ships up in Alaska a while back. Imagine everyone on the boat with severe diarrhea

Naaah, all that happened much later than when I was on one.

I was on what was supposed to be a "better" cruise line (Royal Caribbean) and the food impressed me as a very, very excellent buffet, that's all.

Of course I was used to San Francisco's world class restaruants, so I was pretty spoiled. They served food 24 hours a day. One night there was a midnight "Chocolate" themed meal. Some rich "Mafia looking" Russians and their wives/girlfriend/babushkas had never, apparently, seen shrimp before.

They pile a huge mountain of shrimp on their plate-at midnight- it was funny.

The cruise ships get most of their money from on- ship gambling and by serving alcohol.

The mixed drinks were really fabulous, I must say, but they were expensive, and they were trying to sell you one, every second.

All the cruise ships would confiscate any private booze of the passengers that they brought on board or purchased on shore, and would return it at the end of the cruise, so if you wanted to drink you had to buy it on board, drink by drink.
That policy is still followed to this day.

The "casinos" on board were smoky, cheap looking, and ugly, and with ratty worn out carpets, like a down at the heels joint in North Las Vegas, where the over 40 hookers who've worn out their welcome on the "strip" end up, when their looks are gone.....

My sister's friend, Natalie, went over 2 years ago. She promised us pics but we've not heard shit from that snot face since she left. I guess she thinks she's too good for us, now . . .

Yeah, 40 years ago. Lot of snow-shoveling going on even back then.

I did end up going last month, and I highly recommend it. The whole island is really trying hard to win back tourists, and it's very safe and friendly. The sun is very hot, but there's always a nice breeze. You can burn in about 15 minutes, so be careful.

We stayed at the Marriott resort downtown, which was great. The other hotel area is just north of Eagle beach, and a lot of restaurants are there.

One restaurant you should not miss is south of downtown about 10 minutes, called the Flying Fishbone. It's an Aruba style beach dinner, with the tables right on the sand up to the water. Great food, too. I'll try to attach a photo.

Aruba seemed pretty affordable, too. I think they've had to get aggressive on pricing to get the tourists back. You could fly direct from Atlanta on Delta. Also, we rented a car which proved to be a plus. We explored the whole island, which if you're going for two weeks you'll want the flexibility.

Other island/beach vacations I've enjoyed include Phucket (Thailand, and not pronounced phonetically!) Turtle Bay resort on Oahu (Nutz can weigh in on that one) and Surfer's Paradise (Australia). I'm not to crazy about most of the Carribean islands (St Thomas, et al.)

Well, all the info here so far holds true, the only thing to add is summer is low season and hurricane season too, northern Caribbean mostly effected, if travel insurance is offered take it. Insurance saved me 12K once.
