Thanks for all the inputs... some of them are quite amusing
I agree that what happened is the energy came in through the satelite, migrated from our tivo to the phone cords, blew everything attached to the phones, melted the phone box outside etc. . it may have also jumped onto other circuts.
Sucks, but thats life....

Lightning is powerful stuff. Years ago an auto parked at a curb in Kansas City was cut in half by an explosion. At first, Organized Crime was suspected. Later it was attributed to the adjacent sign post that was struck by lightning. Water in the post and under ground instantly turned to steam with enough force to cut the car in half.

I was told that being inside the [stationary] car was one of the safest places to be during the lightning storm, but that does not take falling trees and all other secondary damages into account.
It's fascinating how CSI and forensic teams determine the cause of such unusual incidents.

Struck?
Stuck?
Perhaps you ought to see a proctologist in any case - he may find a Claymore stuffed with miniature lightning bolts up the ass.

Satellite sucks (bad customer service, that's for sure). Switch to local cable provider.
