It's official - The French are a bunch of whiners

LONDON (AFP) - French workers are the world's biggest whiners, according to a study published Monday which said the Irish complain least about their lot.

Britons come second to their Gallic cousins in the moaning stakes, followed by Sweden, the United States and Australia. Japanese workers have the lowest morale, but don't complain so much.

The lowest levels of whining were found in the Netherlands, Thailand and Ireland, according to the study by the FDS research group.

"It is interesting to note that after France, Britain and Sweden, the world's biggest workplace whingers are Americans, despite their having by far the highest levels of income," said FDS chief Charlotte Cornish.

"Compare them to Thai workers: while real levels of income are more than eight times higher in the States, more workers in the US feel their pay is a problem than in Thailand," she added.

The study, entitled "What Workers Want, A Worldwide Study of Attitudes to Work and Work-Life Balance", draws on data from 14,000 employees in 23 countries.

They were notably asked about their satisfaction with issues including pay levels and their work-life balance, as well as average working hours.

In terms of worker morale, Dutch workers are the happiest, followed by their Thai and Irish counterparts. The lowest morale of all is found in Japan, followed by Germany, said the study.

The study's authors noted that rightwing French President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy shouldn't expect things to become happier anytime soon, as he prepares to shake up notoriously strike-prone France.

"The UK and US, with their marked competitive individualism and unequal wealth distribution, both appear towards the top of the world's list of whingiest workers," said Cornish.

"The French come out on top -- it seems unlikely that Nicolas Sarkozy's election and the likely shift to more Anglo-Saxon economic practices will make the workers in France any more happy with their lot," she added.

Yeah and what the report failed to reveal is that most of our whinging is aimed at the French, their lack of cleanliness and their shit-awful cars of which so many Brits seem to drive.

Think it is a conspiracy, do all the greens own shitty French cars?

Greens demand 20mph speed limit

A speed limit of 20mph could be introduced across much of London within three years.

The measure, which would affect central London and residential areas where the limit is usually 30mph, is being demanded by the London Assembly Green Party, backed by road safety experts.
Jenny Jones, the Mayor's Green road safety adviser, said she had discussed the plan with Ken Livingstone and that he backs more 20mph zones, but needed a little "arm-twisting" to accept their introduction across London.
The Greens propose that 20mph would become the "default" limit on all London roads and councils would have to make a special case to exempt strategic routes such as bus routes and trunk roads. The limit would be enforced by new speed cameras.
At the same time, thousands of road humps, pinch-points and chicanes would be removed. Ms Jones said: "Making 20mph the normal speed limit would save lives and money and give a major boost to cyclists, who would feel safer."
Roger Geffen of cyclists' organisation CTC, said: "20mph makes sense not just for road safety; it also means cleaner air, less congestion and more people taking up cycling and walking. It would cut costs and bureaucracy enormously."
A study of 20mph zones in London found that they halved the number of people killed or seriously injured.
rry about getting a car up past 20 MPH if the greens have their way.

^^^^^

20 mph is fucking funny seeing as the average speed in central London is actually 11 mph for most of the day.
These fucking politicians just cannot help but meddle. After 2000 years of perfecting route and surface construction of roads, we are now going backwards with humps, pinches and chicanes. An average journey now rapidly induces nausea and ambulances damage their patients en-route to hospitals. This is a very irritating city now. I think I will have to consider moving to the third world.

I can strongly recommend Jakarta but I did check my display today while stuck in traffic, it read my avg. speed was 15kmh and it took me 17.1 liters for every 100kms I traveled. Of course we live very close to the city and most of my driving is in the city, I rarely get on a toll road.

French are whiners?

Say it ain't so!

Was this supposed to be some startling news flash?

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
