I actually need car help....

Hello,

My college friend (girl) drives an old 1990 Ford Taurus with 116,000 miles on it. The car was maintained and looks rather new but there is a problem that I'm hoping one of you can solve. When you put the car in drive it does not really engage...in other words, when you step on the gas the RPMs go up and it does not go anywhere. When you gas the hell out of it then it catches lightly and goes about 5 miles per hour. The reverse drives fine. I guess the tranny is shot? Would this be hard for my brother to replace if he is a VW/AUDI technician?

Any info on slipping transmissions is highly appreciated. Worth to fix?

Car:
Ford Taurus (piece of shit)
1990
116,000 K
V6

Sounds like the transmission is shot (don't use tranny in OT, you'll likely see all kinds of pictures you weren't hoping for). The car is worth no more than 2 grand working right, price a transmission and make your decision . . . were it me, I'd put it out to pasture.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Otherwise it is indeed junk, get rid of it.

Thumbs down

Auto tranny.....1). the governor seals are gone. 2). the clutch plates have worn thin. 3). Incorrect tranny oil. 4). Sell the car real quick to some mug but wear something different than the outfit in your photo! Good luck!

Pour water through the transmission check outlet (remove the rod), then engage reverse and pour some more water. Leave it in reverse for a minute or two then engage to neutral then pour enough water until it comes out from that inlet. Make sure your or your friend in sholding the brake or the car is loacked in place with ricks/briks. Finally engage to drive and hit the gas.
This is a secret Chinese transmission Chi enhancement. You will be amazed!

It runs cooler if you use anti-freeze instead of water. Also, add two cups of sugar first.
