I don't know about the MODERATORS, but in general the view of Islam outside of heavily Islamic areas is created by the actions (which speak louder than words, remember) of what are claimed to be the few (but in reality seem to an endless number) radical fundamentalists and the words of what appear to be another "few," because they just don't appear to be a significant number, that disclaim these activities. The view or image is one of high-road intellectual discussions of Islam being a peace loving religion that is overwhelmed by graphic, horrific and unending violence. The high road travelling voices had a good chance of carrying the day when the only victims were less radical, fundamentalist Islamists. When the victims became Europeans and Americans the reality of the violence overwhelmed the comfort and appeal of the soft words about Islam being a peace loving religion.
While my IGNORANCE may preclude my appreciation of the logic of how these two images are to be reconciled in a manner that allows me to remain tolerant of Islam as it is practiced from one extreme to the other, I am quickly becoming much more tolerant of my kind of IGNORANCE than I am of having to accept the whole picture of Islam. In fact, I am nearing the point of deciding I would rather not tolerate any more Islam at all than have to accept the radical, fundamentalist, violent, anti-everyone-but-equally-violent-fundamentalist-Islamists-of-the-exact-same-sect Islamists along with the broadly claimed vast majority of Islamists who are peace loving. And I am not sure I really think it is due to some inner program of racism and willingness to hate people based on religion. I think a more useful program, preservation of the clan, is the reason. I think hearing how Islam loves peace while Islam also tries to use violence to stamp out my kind is making Islam sound like a used car dealer in a plaid liesure suit.
From my perspective, dealing with the radical elements of Islam is Islam's problem and Islam is the only party properly equipped to fix the problem. IF Islam expects the rest of the world to deal with it for them, the answer is not going to be a good one for Islam or anyone. And, as long as Islam does not deal with the radical elements of Islam, my logic says it is all the same Islam. Racism, bigotry and prejudice are borne of self preservation interests that are basic, hardwired human operating system programs. They can be moderated and even turned off if there is no threat that brings into question survival of the clan. At the moment, Islam's radical fundamentalist arm is giving good reason to question survival of the clan in both Europe and the United States. It is up to the rational body of Islam to cut off this arm of radical fundamentalists and isolate it, so that it dies and does not take the body with it on this trip to what will likely be a nuclear horror.
