What the Hell's wrong with you lot?! - this is a bitch thread on crappy stuff that doesn't 'bounce'.

BIC lighters last for years - if you don't use them, but that's the opposite of my point.

A friend of mines son (a carpenter) bought a rubber armoured Nokia cellphone a few months ago. The ads for this particular phone boasted its robustness over mere plastic clad case models - including video of the thing still working fine after dropping a floor level on a construction site.
The day after it slipped from his shirt pocket onto a concrete floor (on which he was standing), the local wizard Vodafone warranty fuckuarguementator diagnosed that because the phone had been dropped, the warranty was void.
I've just found two other things that will soon need replacement AGAIN - both of which have already been replaced within the last two years (under warranty).
The 'touch' panels on both the bloody washing machine and the stove (oven, cooker - whatever it's called where you live) have stuffed 'GO' buttons. The micro thin plastic covers have AGAIN disintegrated around the button surrounds.

I want to blame somebody!!!.

Do you punch the buttons on your washing machine or something?

Kids do not have a 'push gently' button finger, they have a 'why am I doing this myself - pissed off, work now ya bastard!' button pushing finger.
They figure that pushing harder = goes better and faster and don't even want to be doing it anyway so fuck the world - Mum and Dad first.
Touch buttons should be restricted to devices designed for the exclusive usage by fairies and people who vote 'Green'..

ROFL! I'm trying to think what my sister and I broke over the years and it was not that much, I know my sister knocked my Dad's new camcorder off a table back when she was about three and that was when a camcorder was about a million billion dollars.

But of course I have similar aged items that still run : a car. Skillsaw, Bosch drill, yada yada yada.....
Yet my electric jug is now version 4 (used to be able to replace the element on version 1 - c/w seal), my home phone (these things used to last forever!) is at least version 4 as well (the batteries always crap out).
My electric toothbrush was a totally forgettable experiment, as was the 'Fathers Day' battery powered trendy replacement a few years later.
Anyone who still uses a micro shave Braun battery shaver... must confess to a beard like a goat!.
Dear God! - does anyone actually still use a plug in shaver?.
They're all crap devices.
What the hell happened?.
All this junk - including the computer I'm working at - have the lifespan of a mouse.

FWIW, my dad has his own audio room with vacuum tube amplifiers that he has to warm up to get great, crisp sound from his vinyl records! And the best part? He doesn't have a CD player, just a nice, artfully designed LP player on a nice glass table with balances on each corner.

I think the reason devices go bad is two-fold. Consumers think they're expendable, so they (ab)use the crap out of them instead of meticulously maintain them (I'm sure not everybody does this, there are exceptions). On the other hand, they could have been badly designed from the start...

I have a 1920's wind up gramaphone in my hallway that still plays my weird collection of 78s. It did receive a rubber guts re-do about twenty years ago though.
By comparison, my family now has NO portable CD players that still work.
My respect to your Dads equipment Karugs!.

So here's a thought - a manufacturer of an electrical home device 'anything' that can say "It'll last for years and years - or we can fix it!"
Btw, - does anyone still remember Kenwood cake mixers (boy were they crap!)
