An interesting parallel...

I got this in e-mail, thought it was pretty entertaining and, if you've ever had a bird feeder, humorous.
'course the parallel isn't truly parallel, but it's still interesting.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere.

Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though
I had fed them out of my own pocket.

And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed
at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.
I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.

I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education
and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands.

Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families:
you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child's 2nd grade class is
behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags
other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

Gregs210, I agree 100%, and I am a legal alien resident in the U.S.
Why politicians here are still talking about building a wall along the border is beyond me. All it takes is laws that make it impossible to find gainful employment, with high fines for employers.
How many more laborers with marginal skills, little education, and few social skills/graces does America need?
Multiple offspring with claim to citizenship, so the parents can stay legally, is a reward for an illegal act in the first place. It's far different in Europe.
I have lived on four Continents, and when our Son entered an English only school in Texas, he did not speak the language.
He is now head of technology for a LA radio station.
English is not my native language, but it should be, and remain the language of the USA.

Coming through many LA neighborhoods proves that the 'melting pot' does not melt anymore.

I agree also, Gregs210. Good way to make the point in a way even the most obtuse among us can understand it.

It's not only the birds. The squirrels have chewed the top off of one my feeders, the racoons steal my cat food, and an opossum came in thru my doggie door (though I must admit he didn't live long enough to do any harm, my elkhound took care of that problem very quickly) .

Run the analogies for that one! Destruction of private property, theft, breaking & entering. Thank goodness my dog doesn't work for the border patrol or she would have been arrested.

It is a good analogy. I am not one for the open door that some folks seem to like. I have had four friends involved in accidents with very unlicensed, uninsured motorists in the past month. None were legally in the country.

But I am not sure about removing the feeder as then you remove it for the legals as well as the illegals. Many of the legals paid taxes for years and now just need the feeder for a while.

But to the important part of the thread. Someone mentioned the squirrels eating a hole in their feeder. Squirrels in my ‘hood managed to get in the roof of the house. Humane traps have not worked so we are now going working with a laser sighted pellet rifle. It also keeps the opossum and raccoon fat and happy and the birds get to eat undisturbed. Got some great pictures of a Indigo Bunting just this morning.

By the way the secret is to put the feeders AWAY from your deck, not right next to it.

That reminds me of all the people that buy a yellowjacket trap and then hang it from the eaves of the house, usually fairly close to a doorway. Great way to get stung; even the packaging tells you to put it up away from your house.

FWIW, McBear, the big pet stores sell some pretty cool electric fencing, you could probably mount it up in your eaves and that would keep the squirrels out. Plus when they hit it they'd spring out and land on the grass, dazed and confused. Take vids and post them if you do this.
