read before you post.

whatever I know and could answer I answered, otherwise, I clearly stated I have no experience or defer to suggestions from more knowledgeable members.

I am all for up for you having an enjoyable vacation.

I am stating a caveat that your destination, Venice, does not allow cars in its central part, and I do not want you to be disappointed upon arriving there.

don't read all the posts or threads anymore.

it's like having random ignore feature activated.

therefore pardon me if I sound out of sync in a discussion

You really had to know where to put the car at any given moment as the twisty two lane roads required a mastery of the 'center stripe passing manuver'. A car overtaking you expects you to know he is there. Oncoming traffic must move halfway onto their right shoulder. You are expected to steer halfway onto your right shoulder to allow him to pass you on the left, so he won't have to go completely into the opposite traffic lane, thereby creating a temporary 3 lane road where only a 2 lane existed. Likewise, a car passing another as it approaches you from the opposite direction expects you to slide over.

Haben ze das notig? (or something similar)

THAT took some getting used to!
I flew into Shannon airport once piss drunk with a reservation for a very large Austin-Healy. They handed me the keys even though I must have stunk like a dormitory floor. This was in the 80's when the roads were plagued with blind corners and although I practically learned to drive in Ireland, I kept swerving back into the right hand lane. I recall a lot of shouting and name calling with the occasional hand gesture but little else.
What straightened me out was when I turned this one particular corner, there was a smallish car in the middle of the road that was flat.....Literally flat, as in a couple inches thick from stem to stern. I now realize that it must have been a junker that went through the crusher that simply fell off the truck but in my state I assumed this poor bastard got leveled by something with an amazing amount of mass.
