California 198

I've been using this shortcut for a while now and it's one of the most amazing roads. It's only about 45 miles but it is a hair-raising, heart pounding trip up and down mountains with dips, uber-sharp turns, blind corners, weird scenery, balls-out driving locals yet all on very smooth pavement(they're actually doing road work now). In a truck it's fun, although last time I went through with a load of peanut butter and chocolate and when I opened the doors, it had become 26 pallets of Reese's Cups.
On a motorcycle or little sports car it would be night.

You and that li'l Volvo of yours would absolutely love Highway 1 in N. California--pucker factor 11. Or, you'd also love the death-defying full metal jacket thrill ride that is driving along the West coast highways of night.

I know that area quite well as I am there every August for the PB Concours and all the fanfare at the Monterey Peninsula weekend. Highway 1 to Big Sur and back is no slouch either. Hit it at an off time or day and it is basically yours. Will try your route later this year and report back. No car show this year as I have to go to Helsinki.
