I think the big slip-up came from Mr. Ineptness himself, Alberto Gonzalez. His testimony that there is no right of Habeus Corpus in the US Constitution scared the shit out of everyone and tipped their hand. It was as if he was laying some sort of groundwork, and took a step too far in their incremental march towards a US corporate state. What he was essentially advocating was a position that stated the US Government planned to no longer be bound by English Common Law, the system that underlies the COTUS, with its recognized writs and principles established over centuries. Prior to that, he advanced another inherently fascist idea as US policy, the idea the President is exempt from law and treaty in his role of Commander in Chief. It started to become clear just where this man was headed with his interpretation of law. Even some of their usual stooges wised up, as we can see by the bi-partisan attempt to get rid of him.
But the greatest blow to them was a quirk. In order to make an American-style fascism work, the mega-rich players behind the scene needed a new front man every eight years. The heir apparent was another malleable moron in the tradition of the Bush family, George Allen, Senator from Virginia whose job it would be to keep the seat warm for Jeb in 2016. He knew how to play the suckers that formed the fascist electoral base in this country. Again, we see ineptness and hubris come into play, as Allen tripped over his Macaca mouth. If there is a God, he has protected us.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
