Israel told her they "desire peace," which is a football field away from "we want to resume peace talks." One is an objective or goal, the other is a strategem. Pelosi is clearly unable to discern the distinction.
Huh? Didn’t Israel suggest that it wants to open up a channel for peace talks with the Arabs while they were meeting over falafel and watching belly dancers?
The rumor was that the Saudi Plan was going to resurface and some compromise would have to be made.
Honestly do you think Pelosi went to Syria without to talking to Israel directly or indirectly( through AIPAC and other groups)? All politicians involved with the Middle East get briefed by AIPAC before they even think of developing policy or create bilateral channels of any form with the Arabs. Tell me this is not true; let's see how much you know

I'm sure she got briefed by AIPAC. But AIPAC is not the Israeli government (though it has very close relations) and the Israeli PM made a specific point of publicly distancing himself from Pelosi's comments. That is highly significant.

What do issues between Israel and Syria have to do with Ms. Pelosi playing freelance negotiator? I'm all for sticking it up GW's derrière if that's all it's about, but I can think of a boatload of more productive and appropriate venues to pursue toward that end. Seriously, doesn't that wacky bitch have enough to worry about at home?

Good we are on the same wavelength on the briefing part. However ask yourslef why did Olmert distance himself from Pelosi?

That would have been an expensive way of sticking it up to Bush, do you realize that it costs mega dollars to fly her and her people around for such a tour? We are both paying for it. I would rather get a ROI so why not peace? Why is Olmert all of the sudden pulling himself into a corner yet a few days earlier he was telling the Arabs he wanted to tango?

Let me guess -- because Ms. Pelosi is engaged in freelance negotiations without the express blessing and consent of her government. Could that have something to do with it? Perhaps she needs a reminder that she was elected for the express purpose of representing folks from her district in CA.

Non, she is the Speaker of the House and that means she's got balls!
As much as Newt had time to craft his "Contract with America" she has the right to break a deadlock created by an incompetent president.

So, she has completed her task at home? She ran out of things to do?
