Best News Ever, I Am Officially Poor!
On Monday the two Rolls Royces will go to their new owners! I will be dancing a little jig to celebrate the departure of those two unbelievable pieces of shit. If you have never owned a Lucas era Rolls you owe it to yourself to drive one for a couple of months just so you will have a new appreciation for your tennis shoes, a Kia, a bus pass, or you might even start a new religious cult if you drive a Lexus or Mercedes directly afterwards. Even though my two are the best examples of their type, they are so fucking tempermental and unreliable you will forever hate cars in general after prolonged exposure to them.
But since they are going I am now officially poor, or so I heard recently. Doesn't matter that I have bought too many $100+k mercedes in the past. Those do not count to the masses. Only a car that is the epitome of stupidity will do for people who know nothing about autos, and that is 85% of the people I fear.
So next time I am in a worn out old Cadillac or Chevy with well over 100k miles and I pull up next to a non german RR at a light, please forgive me if I go into convulsions, laughing hysterically, and pointing in ridicule at the sucker sitting next to me.
i havent owned either of those cars , i did pick one up for a freind in tennasee.
me i drive a 94 plymouth voyager van good old chrysler never let me walk yet and i have owned a lot of them.
ford garbage
lincoln see ford
chevy ok
vw cheap on fuel but expensive to fix
mercedes no coment
leyland i love my tractor
I'd always wondered if those cars could be an albatross. I am sorry they were for you. I knew one man who had one, I think it was a '72 or a '73, it was his mother's and that Edwardian motorcar was driving hinm to the poorhouse, (and he was a multimillionaire!!) and he sold it to the Iranian guy who owned a car stereo shop in SF.
Those Rollers, you just offed, what model year were they? Reason I ask is cause a friend of mine just bought an '89 Silver Spur in San Francisco, which had suffered mild accident damage, front and rear corners, from the body shop which sold it off in a "lien sale", and he thought he got a good deal on it.
Is he driving around with the sword of Damocles hanging over his head, or not to worry with an '89? He's had the thing for only a few months but no problems so far. I'm hoping he won't.

Met another trucker along with his wife/co-driver from Chicago the other day unloading at a warerehouse who had me in stitches. He said his wife was always complaining and he couldn't understand why. She gets to travel around the country in a $185,000 vehicle and eat and sleep wherever she wants.
I think the best way to own a RR is to have zero knowledge of cars but have a great deal of money that needs to be laundered.

i met a couple semi retired team drivers they sold the house and just drive truck. now that the kids have moved out.
they figure they would see the country before settling down again.
I was home watching Dynasty when I decided to have a little Rendezvous with victoria. I thought a night on the town would be great, so I picked her up in my benz. Victoria was part Cherokee and always dressed to the nines with her Sable and Topaz jewelry. She had such a Mystique. And me, I wore a Blazer. Well I would love to be in Malibu but I'm more of a New Yorker. Victoria is more of a Suburban type, so she is somewhat out of her Element. Anyway I traveled up Fifth Avenue until I got to Park Avenue.
You have to careful nowdays so I allways carry my Baretta with me. When we arrived at the club I ran into Jimmy, Yukon imagine my surprise when he had Sierra with him, my old girlfriend! I had met her in the Riviera on an Excursion a couple of years ago. I remember the night I saw her Silhouette behind the curtin just as she came out on stage at club El Dorado. There was a Storm that night but there was a Toronado in my heart! After spending a few weekends in Daytona our romance was over. I didn't know if I could Stanza nother night alone. Now here we are face to face with my best friend. Jimmy was a Legend
so I can't blame him, after all he wasn't the one who Taurus apart. So I said let's all have some Concord and relax. I had to keep my Focus. Jimmy was a Free Spirit who couldn't Escape with out retelling some of his old Escalades.
I decided to ask a few questions to Sierra and Probe into what she'd been up to. I know that was a little Interpid but I felt my heart racing like an Avalanche. Jimmy didn't seem to mind we had been friends for what seems like a Century. So jimmy ask Victoria to dance, then Escorted her to the floor. Jimmy was like a Celebrity cause he looked like Ringo Starr you know he was a Beetle. I then suggested we go some place and play Monte carlo the night is young and I've got Neon in my veins and tried to pay the check but jimmy insisted and told me he would chevette up my ass if I tried to pay. Just then the club DJ announced the Winner of the dance contest. I couldn't believe they Crown VIctoria ! I have to admit she is a good dancer, especially if it's has a up Tempo she has alot of Vigor
and vim. Well, jimmy put the bill on his card, he is a real Charger and we were all in Accord.
I should write a book it would Celica hot cake!

Shane - you were just showing those off on here last week! I had no idea they were both a POS, but if you say so, that's good enough for me.
I still remember the Lucas Jags from the '60s that we can say the same things about. I thought the British cars were much improved by the time yours were made, particularly Rolls Royces and Bentleys.

Same goes for Ferrari[/quote]

Interesting, I've been doing that for years. A while back, three of my friends, car nuts all, bought Ferraris and RRs (just for the hell of it) and all bailed out within months, significantly lighter in the wallet and went back to Porsche, Mercedes and BMW.
The only upside was that my mate 'Slasher' (an oil trader, not a hood) lent me his 328 GTS for a few months after I had totalled my own car. It was fun, but I was glad to give it back at the end of the term.
