New Alfa-Romeo Spider

They have just started advertising this on the TV. It looks superb. Don't think I could bring myself to buy one though. The reputation for bad build quality is deeply ingrained in me. I had a Lancia as a company car once, loads of fun but nailed together and started to fall apart on the day it was delivered to me.

Not a bad looking car, the back end reminds me of a BMW and the front reminds me of a Bugatti.

I'm gonna go check out some vids of it.

A friend of mine had a new '76 Alfetta. He got a "deal" on it because there was a fire on the ship over to the USA while it was being shipped and there was smoke damage supposedly to it.

But, it turns out they used salt water to put out the fire and the car started rusting out after he had it for a few months. He got rid of it after a year, some bargain that turned out to be. Replaced it with a new Dodge Omni/Horizon. Replaced THAT after a year with an RX7!!!

I drove it one time to Reno, Nevada and loved it, it was like a rocket ship on rails.

However, they aren't known for reliability or longevity. Italian cars, I would NEVER want to own one of them. I'd include them in the 3 F category (if it flies, f**ks or floats, RENT them.)
Compare them to the old Mercedes diesels that are still around.

I would venture to guess that all Alfa Romeos were delivered to the US on the lowest exposed deck of a rusty ship, windward side.

They were almost all rustbuckets from new. It don't take a fire to make an Alfa rust. Just add air.

One question for DR....
Does the new one have that cool cigarette lighter in the console? The one you just drop your cig in and press down until it starts to smoke?

Cause those were cool, unless you needed to fire up a shorty......

I've only had one Alfa (no pun) , it was fantastic ,a complete piece of shit that would sheer it's drive shaft bolts , shit it's gear box , break down oh so often .
But for Lotus nothing could touch it for feeling so right when driven hard ...ah young love ..

I love my 20 year old RX7, no rust and still drives like a dream. Secret: NEVER let anyone work on it NEVER.

It again shows the vastly superior Italian mind. The rest of the world was living in mud huts when we were building the Roman empire.

And you'll never catch up.

My Friend on Mallorca has the all wheel drive 3.2 V6 Brera with paddle shifters (6-speed sequential gear box).
That car is a lot of fun to drive, and beautifully designed.
They are rumored to come out with a 4+ L GTA, jointly designed with sister co. Maserati. The Quality of Alfa Romeos has come a long way. While maybe not on par with Mercedes, it's probably comparable to a well made Ford or GM now.
I have never seen one in the U.S.

Maybe your bloodline is from the street, but I'm a descendant of the Roman Empire.

Vastly superior in every way.
