Who's been to jail??
The thread about the wrongfully-incarcerated brits who had to give back some money made me think about jail/prison.
Specifically, I was recalling a few years back when I had to visit a civil client who -- as luck would have it -- had run afoul of the law and was incarcerated. Obviously I can't go into details, but suffice it to say this person had been a pretty tough customer when we'd met on the outside, but each time I visited s/he was a meek little churchmouse. In my line of work I had a bit more freedom than the typical visitor, but it was still pretty intimidating to pass through all the security, multiple doors, clanging locks, magnetic releases, secure elevators...you name it.
So I was just wondering, who here's been to the hoosegow? Why did you go? If it was in another country, what was it like?
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
