Hey, don't call out little Dirk-he's an electronics expert you know. Oh yes. Dimmer switches at low levels consume huge amounts of power. Funny how they don't get red hot and burst into flames though, isn't it?

"when you dim a light below 50% the hydro consumed goes up exponentially.
therefore a 100 watt bulb dimmed @ 50% will take 50 watts , now dim the same bulb to 40 % and it consumes 100 watts
10 % and its closer to 200 watts"

So dkleinstein, tell me the figures for 1% and 0.1%? Quick-call the Fire Brigade!!!!

Go ahead, challenge my education if you can. Go back through as many of my posts as you like and show me where (other than when I'm joking) I have told lies or spoken unsubstantiated bullshit.

But before you do that, answer my question above, regarding the nonsense you speak about power consumption in dimmer switches.

like i said look up power factor or power factor correction and you will learn a few things about how your hydro is metered.

I'm not concerned with metering, I'm concerned about a so-called 'expert' talking bollocks about dimmer switches to another forum member who has a legitimate question.

By the way, for your edification, most of our electricity is generated from gas, coal, nuclear and wind with very little derived from hydro.
