Perfect Elecution vs. Hambone

I feel Obama is a fine candidate but I just heard another sound byte from Selma Alabama in which he puts his "black" on.........Gets jiggy wit' it, so to speak. I think I would be insulted if I were black but perhaps jocularity is more a part of the culture than I percieve. Oprah gets away with it everyday, the difference being Oprah came from abject poverty and pulled herself up from the bootstraps while Obama had a very comfortable upbringing.

Oprah gives the impression of being playful when she does that. If that's how Obama comes across, I'm not sure I see the problem. Perhaps I would if I saw/heard it myself...

It's been running on NPR (yes they broadcast NPR in Montana) all day long. I'm torn frankly. I may be completely off here. Perhaps the point is to bring blacks together cohesively with a "personal" message of unity. I mean...everyone knows how he normally speaks. I'm not offended mind you, hell....Sanford and Son is still my favorite show, lol.
What surprised me was that he did not present himself in an obvious manner, like Oprah, as you mentioned, but rather this slight, almost phoney, southern black drawl.....It was uncomfortable.
Oddly, Hillary has a large black following. I'd hate to think that someone in his camp prompted him to show the people who the real black candidate is. If so, I've lost all respect for someone I truly respected.

Once, in college, the prof played a couple of speeches by Dr. King (and I am in no way comparing the two). One was at Yale, and the other at a church in the deep south. Like two different people. I think Clinton played his southern-ness the same way. Just playing to the audience.

I guess that's why Bush sounds stupid to me...

^^^^^^

I agree. Some folks never change the way they speak but others do significantly. I caught a little of his speech and I didn't detect a great deal of 'jiggyness', but it did seem that La Clinton got the greater applause. Maybe that was just due to the edit.
