I feel like I need an SUV

What are my choices?

ML is out of the questions, I've heard enough first-hand complaints.
So help me out guys and gals.

Please keep in mind I don't go off the road, only asphalt.

Not knowing more about your situation,
but if
you live in SF, as I did for 22 years, another option honestly worth considering, is to simply rent one when you feel the need for one.

OR

to find an old, but good, 240/740/850 Volvo station wagon, which would likely work for you very well.

They have EXCELLENT Volvo shops there, such as EXCLUSIVELY VOLVO, VOLVOCENTRUM and others.

An SUV unless you REALLY have to have one, if not wisely chosen IMO could be a foolishextravagance and not worth the trouble to purchase or maintain.

Used Lexus. Ugly for days, but everyone seems to like them. Just wear a blindfold until you are safely inside. Damn they are ugly, really ugly, like toyota prius ugly, like monte carlo ugly, like, like, dare I say the worst....

I will say the worst, most foul looking automobile of our time, the honda ridgeline.

Thanks for the reply.

The vehicle will be used as a commuter.

Volvo can not and will not be considered EVER.
Me and Volvo in the same sentence should not be used.
Now waiting for someone to point out I just did

If you are even considering a Cayenne then why not a Tourege? Does Toyota sell the Harriers there or just under the Lexus 300/300 badge? For the money and operating costs the Toyota Harrier is a big seller here with most that want a SUV but do not go off road.

ML320 CDI. The new ML is an improvement over the first edition, and the CDI gets mid 20's for mpg. In the end, fuel mileage will either be your ally or your enemy. Nothing worse than having a car in the drive you can't afford to cruise in. If you are able to afford it, the new GL320 CDI is due later this year, and the basic vehicle has been given great reviews in the automotive press (GL500) and also gets mid 20's for mpg. It is a bit pricey, in the $60K region decently equipped. Jim

Volkswagen is out of the question too, for the different reasons.

We don't have Toyota Harriers here (someone correct me if I am wrong). It is called Lexus here I think.
