Before I know any better, a friend and I were stopped at night by the Turkish army on the old military road, in the mountains W. of Erzerum.
Robbers had just robbed and killed the passengers of a 2002 BMW. Beside us, there was a van with Italian hippies, two Danish architects, some Brit hippies, and an Iranian Azerbaijani, who also spoke Turkish and German.
We spent the night in a shepherders hut, one room with the animals behind a low dividing wall. The enterprising shepherder offered to cook dinner. After we all decided on chicken, he grabbed chicken from the other side of the wall, cut off the heads, cleaned and cooked them. We invited the Turkish army guys and became their latest best friends. We had some Scotch and Brandy, some killer hash., and the Brits had a cassette player with Deep Purple and Sabbath tapes.
I remember one Italian blowing smoke at a black widow that was crawling up the wall. All in all a memorable night.
We left after sunrise.
I once found a weevil in my okra.

I drove with my mate from Izmir in a white Landrover Discovery which most of the locals mistook for a U.N. vehicle. Despite Midnight Express, I too took a little something along for the trip. It was memorable, travelling much of the time along the Silk Road. We were out to assess the apricot crop, which is grown mostly by Kurds. Nice folks, I feel sorry for them.

I believe the Kurds are the Worlds largest ethnic group without a homeland. We employed a number of Kurds in Iran. Good people and often fiercely loyal. Just don't get them mad.
Izmir is a beautiful City, but a little too touristy now. I have friends up the coast in Ayvalik.

If you have the right connections and a few bucks, the laws don't necessary apply.
I have friends in Istanbul, fifth generation bazaaris. The going ons in that City are truly 'out there.'

Yes, Izmir is either touristy or industrial now. My friend, like most of the merchants had a house in Cesme, which is beautiful and mostly unspoiled. I think he has sold it recently :-(

Impressive quantity doesn't mean much if the wood in question is like balsa or lauan.

Being an oriental, I tend to liken mine to a bamboo: fast growing, straight, hard and ribbed for pleasure.

HA! When I posted and it went full size, I saw the web address at the bottom! If I had FireFax or Clavicle or some shit like that, maybe I'd check it out but I don't want any more bugs in my computer. Oh, well...

TK will let us know, I'm certain.

Ah--once one of my dad's truck tires blew at a truck stop--it was so loud, the guy sleeping in the next cab jumped out, naked as a blue jay, and ran barefoot across the gravel parking lot to the store.
ok i have lots of skunk problems in fact we have to trap them and gas them or the eggs start to smell funny you know what i mean
so when the dogs get sprayed we wash them down with tooth paste.
the mintier the better. it cuts the smell right down.

now jilly as for the trucker were you chasing him through the parking lot with your scale and just how mutch did his jewels weigh in at.
