Ha!

You know what your problem is? You need to take your radiator cap off...

....and slide a new car underneath it. Problem solved.

Actually, I think it just needs a new '710'.

With regards to the light bulb thing, what disturbs me is the only thing that people seem to pay attention to is the end of the cycle, that power consumption thing, with no regard to costs and energy used in manufacture, including production of whatever gas that is inside the thing. I'm not suggesting it is a deal breaker, just that the whole injury to the environment would need to be considered. Plus, I am suspicious of all such regulation . . . when a law is made that is contrary to the marketplace rules, it leads to somebody making money they didn't earn, and quite often they're behind the push for the law.

All that being said, I'll kick off the list of other things that are fair game if the light bulb thing becomes law. Add to it as you see fit:

1. Ban headlights on during the day
2. No thermostats which will allow a heat setting above, say, 60 degrees, or a cooling setting less than 78
3. No escalators
4. No washers/dryers. You can wash your clothes by hand
5. No dishwashers, ditto
6. No TV's (read a book for entertainment)
7. Mandatory carpooling
8. No motor driven treadmills or other exercise equipment (in fact, hook up a generator to them and let people make power while they exercise)
9. No power tools
10. No powered lawn mowers
11. No fireplaces
12. No grilling outside, too much wasted heat
13. In fact, it is way more efficient to "meal pool" amongst the neighborhood all the time. No home cooked meals for less than 20 people
14. No frivoulous sporting events inside or at night requiring lighting

Given the parameters, I'm sure you can add more sins and conveniences we need the government to regulate for national security purposes . . . just look around . . .
Could you please add NASCAR to that list so I don't have to listen to Larry MacReynolds whiney assed voice, at least until his testicles finally descend.

You don't need ten, just drive your 560 behind other's ML and wait for the parts to fall off.

Actually, they're not different at all. Just like the light bulb, each uses or wastes energy that doesn't need to be. If it is appropriate for big brother to regulate light bulbs, those should be fair game, also. And calling me a childish name doesn't diminish the point one bit.

^^^^^^

Moreover, most of the items/systems in your list have over time been re-designed to be more energy efficient. That is all advocates of LED or CFC light sources are attempting to do, not require that you only read your books, outside, during the hours of daylight.

And considering the number of references to "nekkid pics of Jillian and Chill _Babe" you have made over the months, are you sure you actually read books?

Eh, I'm not really delusional about ever seeing nekkid pics of either one, as any woman who drives a Benz obviously has more class about them than most and have no need to degrade themselves in a forum such as this. All that being said, I'll keep watching for it.

And with regards to the list, every item remains energy wasted, whether it is less than it used to be or not. I just wonder where the line between necessary and just governmental action and fascist governmental meddling is. Surely, if national security is at stake, they should step in and make is do what's right.

You know, toilet paper is a real waste of power, energy, electricity, etc. too.

I would understand a ban on carpet or vinyl siding, but lightbulbs?
Smells like money is behind it.

Our poor politicians just wouldn't know what to do without lobyists.

Maybe we could replace our politicians with ATMs. Whoever transfers the most funds into the treasury gets to set policy.
