Well you need a drop-top in your new location don't you? If my memory serves me well, I think they got 'ok' reviews when they were launched but goodness knows what reliability is like on an old timer. Got pictures of the actual article?

No pics, just found it listed on Craigslist a few minutes ago.

Surely the engine can't be any worse than those TH4100's

The blue one is nice but stay away from that 'customized' red one.

Trivia fact: In making the movie Terminal Velocity, they used 23 Cadillac Allante automobiles, destroying nine completely. They push a red one out of an airplane. The bad guy that put it in the airplane waxed eloquently about it!

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Exclamation A good one costs around 15.000 USD so make your calculations.

Ah, Allante's you ask about? Well you've come to the right source. They are dependable, since all they are is a shortened '86 to '91 Eldorado wheelbase with the same drivetrain for the most part. Luckily these little Eldos were +200k mile cars once the engines were enlarged to 4.5 liters (4.9 too.) So you want an '89 or above Allante because of this. A '93 only Allante has the Northstar engine which greatly increases performance, but at a significant purchase cost. Northstars are reliable as well.
I would go for an '89 to '91 since the 4.5 is plenty strong enough, has nice low end torque, and who needs top speed in a soft top rattle bucket; hence, the real reason Allantes are worthless, lack of chassis rigidity and Cadillac's ruined reputation from the days of diesels and HT4100's. Honestly, Allantes are so cheap why not just buy a running one for around $7k? Head gasket may only be one part of the overheated problem.
On another front SL300's and SL320's are super cheap too, a good one for $10k to $14k in the early 90's era, so why not just get one of these? They are far more refined than the Cadillac, still reliable, and offer contemporary chassis structure. A 5 speed stick 300sl would be fun and rare if you can find one, and worthless ($) too since mercedes owners hate to shift.

A Cadillac dealer just took one in on trade: a '93 with 213K miles. Wholesale value = $4,000.00. Hope this helps. Love the 635 CSI!
