Ditto.

The only proof anyone needed that the Grammy Awards is an irrelevant popularity contest is that Carrie Underwood beat out Corinne Bailey Rae as "Best New Artist", and that the faces of R&B are Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, and some non-name thug-looking punk who just shouts and jumps around on the stage. Very convincing. Must be run by the TIME magazine people or something...

Couldn't agree less. Rae doesn't have half the pipes of Underwood.

Unfortunately she has twice the talent....I guess we know counts in Hollywood. Again, it's a popularity contest (whereby record sales = popularity).

When a POLITICIAN does it in front of a willing crowd for cheap applause...

That's politics.
They said it here, they said it in London, they said it to anyone that would listen, it only made big news in London.

How do you know their intent [that it was for applause]? Every interview has suggested that it is their true feelings so it does not sound like it was for "cheap applause". Sounds like their intent was simply to state their opinion, something you say you support in the first sentence.

Let me know when you are willing to speak your mind at total risk of your income and reputation. Most folks don't have the necessary pair to do so. Seems the Chicks have a complete set.

Couldn't agree more! Corinne Bailey Rae will be around long after Underwood is musically dead and buried. I like Carrie--great voice--but she isn't even in the same class w/ CBR...

Have you ever really listened to CBR's pipes??? Hard to believe you could say that if you have...

Just my HO. I don't exactly call CBR's voice "pipes". It's more style, and I'm getting really tired of the husky, little girl voices now a days. I'd like to hear Corinne try to keep up with the Okie girl on Desperado.

Money isn't everything, but it keeps the kids in touch.

OK, now my interest is piqued [and we all know how painful that can be]. Suggestions on album or is there only one?

I believe it was her first album and it is called Corinne Bailey Rae.

Here's a Wikipedia on her:

Corinne Bailey Rae (born 26 February 1979) is an acclaimed Grammy Award-nominated English singer and songwriter who released her eponymous debut album Corinne Bailey Rae in February 2006. Rae was named the number one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics.[1] The poll's predictions subsequently came true, as she became only the fourth female British act in history to have her first album debut at number one.
