Looks like fun! I have been a passenger in a C4 callaway when it reached 202 mph, the rear hatch glass was trying to evacuate its position, but the car was stable. I have only driven 185 mph in a slightly modded SL55. The SL55 was rock solid and couldn't have been more reassuring. The problem with those speeds is how it totally blurs your ability to gauge distances, you basically think after a high end run that you are going much slower than you are when you come down, which can lead to full brake, nervous situations.

The most impressive thing about that video was that it aired a week after
Richard's 288mph crash aired, and James May remained calm and collected.

Shane, i can't imagine that this applies in an SL55, but full-brake situations aren't
really an issue for the Veyron.
When Gordon Murray (Chief Developer on the McLaren F1) test-drove the Veyron for
a few days, he took it to an airfield and performed a hands-off-the-wheel braking test
at 170mph...
The Veyron braked in a completely straight line, no judder, swerving or instability anywhere.
It truly exists on another plane from any other road car, Mercedes McLaren SLR included.

^Either you misunderstood, or I did not state clearly, the braking I was referring to on the SL55 has nothing to do with stability or ability to brake, but has everything to do with speed blindness as they call it. It is the altered perceived judgement of distance, not the braking ability of any individual car.

A buddy of mine races motorcycles...

He said you never know how fast 30mph is until you try getting off your bike in the pits after going 180mph. LOL

He thought he was pretty much at walking to stopped speed when he got off! LOL

Wished I could have seen that!!! LOL

ive been 200 + in a ruf porsche and it was pretty stable as well as 18+ on two different amg cars that where also stable as you said. But 180 vs 254mph has got to crazy.

Who is this guy you speak of that crashed at 288?

Yeah, I get that after driving for 7 hours, even if it's only at an average of 70-75 mph. When I get into the city I have to keep watching the speedo so often it looks like I'm having a seizure.

I also look at the speed limit signs, at when it's at 25 or 35 mph, and after getting used to going faster than that, I always think to myself why the speed limit is set so low. I see no problem with going 70 mph down a commercial/residential district.
