That is an archetypal self-fulfilling prophecy. As long as expectations remain below the belt, we will continue to get exactly what we deserve. If we want better, we must demand it.

Yes! I'm down for some all-out rioting in the streets. I wanna see Federal buildings taken over by the people, politicians spat on when they walk the streets---we gotta take the power back!

Um...I may have had a bit too much coffee this evening. Switching to scotch and back to my normal apathetic self now. Ahhh---that's better.

You are correct. Unfortunately, we're too easy to convince that we want stuff, and if we elect or perpetuate one party over the other, we'll get it.

Vote 3rd party. Anything else reaffirms this monstrosity.

I always have. And it's never made a damn bit of difference. I don't care anymore, really. There's not a party that fits me, anyway. I usually vote Green--and I drive to the polls in my gas-guzzling land yacht while swigging coffee from a styrofoam cup. I like the Libertarian party, sort of--I want the government to stay the hell out of my business, but I'm not entirely comfortable with letting grandma eat dog food, either.

Just a few more years and I'll be able to plug up that little bit of bleeding heart and then it's 'Fuck grandma! Dog food can't be that bad, can it?'.

It makes a difference. You and I are grains of sand. It just takes more grains.

A good friend of mine printed-up buttons in the last presidential election that read,

"I'm wasting my vote on Nader. Who're you wasting your vote on?"

I think that is EXACTLY the right sentiment.

Voting for the major turkey's gets you a major turkey.

May as well waste your vote on something you believe.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. There just never seem to be enough grains...

I voted for Nader (and worked on his campaign) 'cause I thought he was the best candidate. All that time and energy spent for something I really believed in--all for nothing.

Now, I just want to keep as much of my money as possible and I want fat, white, stupid cunt politicians to stay out of my life. I'm just not sure they shouldn't sometimes step in and help some people.

Oh, well---I'm in Alabama--I can always 'waste' my vote.

Nader was the best candidate.

When I was actively organizing for the Greens, I tried to get our local group to de-emphasize the environmental stuff (since, we could do absolutely nothing and still get popular credit for being the "most" enviromentally aware, if only because of the name) and focus on Nader's issues of Guv accountability (libertarian reduction in corporate welfare and guv waste, fraud and abuse), and social justice (zero dogfood consumption by humans). I still think the Greens have the best overall platform, but they're severely hampered by Merkin's fealty to the stultifying two party thinking and skepticism of new stuff than ain't accompanied by a full-tilt Madison Avenue marketing blitz.
