Is Rudy for Real?

Rudy Giuliani: Fake Conservative, National Review: Liberal Views On Abortion, Gay Rights Will Doom Giuliani In GOP Primaries - CBS News

The author, Terrence P. Jeffrey, is exactly what's wrong with the Republican party. This guy classifies Conservatives (and in so doing, himself) as people who would never "annihilate the link between the natural law and man-made laws."

Giuliani's positions on abortion and marriage disqualify him as a conservative because they annihilate the link between the natural law and man-made laws. Indeed, they use man-made law to promote and protect acts that violate the natural law.
I think Rudy is electable, I think he'd be a far better alternative than another President Clinton, and I hope that this guy and people like him drown in rising sea levels sometime before the 2008 elections.

The constitution may have something to say about that before the people got too.

If only Jeb had a different last name...

He has an enormous handicap no one has yet mentioned -- no southern drawl, y'all.

Republicans in general are going to have an issue getting elected. There is no doubt Giuliani could win a popular vote, but his party is run by a bunch of right-wing lunatics who are going to rake any potential candidate over the social conservative coals. And anyone who survives that will need to oppose the war in some measure to win the popular election. I don't think your guy will get the nod from the kooks.

I think he will be hard for the GOP to embrace as well. He lacks the ability to side with those who like to stand back and heave stones back in time against Clinton, and, if you take that away from the GOP's "heartland" I think they will lose their identity.

Also, other than the response to 9-11 as a New Yorker, what exactly has Rudi shown anyone? Since then he seems to me to be a smaller statesman than GWB, almost a GWB sidekick like Robin to Batman. Not a great thing to run on if you ask me. I see Rudy as food for carnivorous birds with sharp talons and strong flesh ripping beaks across the political spectrum. Jim

It's so nice to see the Repigs facing up to the fact their only hope is a Northern Liberal. I would imagine Giuliani would sign all my favorite legislation.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

I don't live in NY, but I thought Rudy had distinguished himself as an outstanding mayor, cleaned the city up, tough on crime, etc. All that being said, I agree with everyone who says he'll have a tough time with the religious right. He's likely a candidate who is electable, but won't be nominated.
