The sad, sad passing of Molly

Although I did not know her well enough to call her a friend, Molly Ivins was a person I had met on a number of occasions. She was just one big human smile, a person that in another time would have been called a "wit". Her way of using humor and irony to make her points made her one of the most fun columnists to read I myself ever had the pleasure of experiencing. She had Bush pegged years ago, and predicted his disastorous presidency in her book about Bush, sardonically called Shrub, printed before he took national office. I will truly, truly miss her.

Molly Ivins, known for poking fun at politicians, dies at 62 -

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

I enjoyed her books, you are so right about her humor and her wit, it's a great loss.

This is a true loss to America. She was a real great speaker of truth to power and will be missed.

She will live on through her writings and observations of history, and will become more interesting as time passes. That can not be said of many folks.

Regardless of whether you agreed with her or not, their was no denying her wit and intelligence.

Whatever happens after we die...I hope it is all goodness for Molly Ivins.

I'm sorry to hear of her passing; I used to really like her columns. However, it seems the last few years she's really had only three or four topics, so I'd grown a little tired of the recurring beating-of-the-dead-horse themes (or maybe the local papers here only chose to publish particular columns of hers). In any event, assuming there's some consciousness in the afterlife, it has to be really ticking her off that Bush is still President and we're still in Iraq. (On the other hand, if she was around for our next invasion (Iran? Korea? Cuba?) that probably would've put her in the grave.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
