For months the word was Libby was going to use the "I was overworked" defense. Now it looks like that was a smoke screen to lull his mob bosses into thinking he wasn't going to go stoolie on them, which if you think of it, was a smart move. He got Cheney to agree to testify without a court fight, meaning Cheney thought he was going to go scowl on the witness stand at that prosecution while he told the jury what a great guy Libby was. Now look - Cheney is going to be asked by THE DEFENSE if he was a backstabbing motherfucker who tried to get his friend to take the rap. For weeks now Cheney has been on Fox News telling HannaClones that Libby was "the finest man I ever met." Set up like a bowling pin! Man, this is going to be good. I'm rootin for Libby now!
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
