Swiftboating of Obama blows up in the face of GOP fascist wing

We've all seen it. First we get a phony story in the 'Washington Times' a phony Moonie rag with the legimate sounding name. Then Fox News reports it as a 'story' as it runs little incriminating questions at the bottom of it's screen. Then the AM radio and the forum and blog stooges kick into gear. It's called 'Swift Boating', the use of coordinated misinformation to smear left wing candidates using organized crime-style tactics. First shot after the election was the Times false "tuna factory on Samoa" horse shit. Did being exposed as desperate liars stop them? No, they went after Obama. Well, this time they got caught, and caught red handed:

CNN debunks false report about Obama
POSTED: 5:43 p.m. EST, January 22, 2007

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.

Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and step-father and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa.

Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.

He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."

Insight stood by its story in a response posted on its Web site Monday afternoon.

The Insight article was cited several times Friday on Fox News and was also referenced by the New York Post, The Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News and a number of political blogs.

School not a madrassa
But reporting by CNN in Jakarta, Indonesia and Washington, D.C., shows the allegations that Obama attended a madrassa to be false. CNN dispatched Senior International Correspondent John Vause to Jakarta to investigate.

He visited the Basuki school, which Obama attended from 1969 to 1971.

"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."

Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.

"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."

Vause also interviewed one of Obama's Basuki classmates, Bandug Winadijanto, who claims that not a lot has changed at the school since the two men were pupils. Insight reported that Obama's political opponents believed the school promoted Wahhabism, a fundamentalist form of Islam, "and are seeking to prove it."

"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

The Obama aide described Fox News' broadcasting of the Insight story "appallingly irresponsible."

Fox News executive Bill Shine told CNN "Reliable Sources" anchor Howard Kurtz that some of the network's hosts were simply expressing their opinions and repeatedly cited Insight as the source of the allegations.

Obama has noted in his two books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," that he spent two years in a Muslim school and another two years in a Catholic school while living in Indonesia from age 6 to 10.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Right-wing media figures claim Clinton behind Obama/Muslim smears

Summary: Melanie Morgan, Lee Rodgers, Rush Limbaugh, and John Gibson all forwarded the accusation made by a website controlled by Rev. Sun Myung Moon that Sen. Hillary Clinton was responsible for spreading information linking Sen. Barack Obama to a madrassa, or Muslim school. None of the four cited any evidence, other than the article, that Clinton was responsible for promoting the madrassa story, and the article cited no one by name.

On the January 19 editions of their radio programs, conservative talk show hosts Melanie Morgan, Lee Rodgers and Rush Limbaugh, as well as Fox News' John Gibson on the same day's edition of The Big Story, forwarded the accusation, originally published on the website InsightMag.com, that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) was responsible for spreading information about Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) -- specifically, that Obama "spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia." The article, bearing the headline "Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background," asserted that "researchers connected to Senator Clinton" disclosed the "details of Mr. Obama's Muslim past." Despite acknowledging near the end of his show that it "[d]oesn't seem" that "Hillary's fingerprints [are] on the story," Gibson said earlier in that program that "[t]he New York senator has reportedly outed Obama's madrassa past."

None of the four radio or television hosts cited any evidence that Clinton was responsible for promoting the madrassa story, beyond the InsightMag.com article, which cited no one by name. On December 13, Jason Zengerle, editor of The Plank, the weblog of The New Republic, predicted that Republicans would "launch a savage and despicable whispering campaign against the guy (Barack Hussein Obama, etc.) and then blame it all on Hillary." Zengerle responded to the InsightMag.com article on January 18:

Rest is here:

That is the most words you have posted without any hint of a point.

We already know that if anything crazy is said about a liberal candidate that the media will spare no expense coming to his aid. That is why it takes more money to run a campaign when you are a conservative.

They didn't help McCain in 2000. He and his brown baby were sunk -- period.

Do you really think that anything said about any candidate a year and 9 months in advance of an election is relevant? Do you really think the other Democratic hopefuls aren't digging up shit on each other? All this country needs is a 2 year soap opera campaign.

Gore "Willie Hortoned" Dukakis.

Why should we be surprised to hear about Obama's chain smoking from a power hungry fellow Dem?

I could be very wrong, but I don't think this country will elect a black, a hispanic, or a woman as president any time soon. Please don't label me as a misanthrope or a bigot, but I just don't see it happening.

So far, we have only seen the woman vice-presidential candidate for Michael Dukakis (forgot her name but IMO she is inconsequential) and the possible candidacy of Colin Powell, who in my humble opinion, would have made a good president.

Elizabeth Dole was a good potential candidate, but please don't get me started on Hillary Clinton. I liked Bill, and our country was in a lot better shape under his administration than it has been under GW Bush.

Only the truly diseased liberal mind can seize upon such a shred for comfort.

He brought up the Dukakis furlough program when he was running against him in the primary. he had an ad produced that was bought by a private fund raising group supporting Bush. Bush took the ball and ran with it, using the most egregious failure aas an example of why Dukakis could not be trusted.

Gore started it.

Only a twisted, liberal, racist fuck could walk away after viewing this ad saying ,"Hey...that was a BLACK guy!" Completely ignoring the substance.

Here is the Bush Ad that actually ran on nationwide teleision:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lFk78R_qYM

Here is the ad produced by the Gore campaign then used by an independent republican group...but only aired locally...until the media picked it up and replaced the actual ad from above. Any refernce to a Willie Horton Ad will now lead to this ad which very few people saw outside of newscasts. This is how the left rewrites history.

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/...ive/horton.mov

Please explain why the first ad...the REAL AD...is never refernced ...say by CNN's recounting of history?
