At the moment I have 3 health care insurance policies. I will not go into the details but God knows I hate all of them.
Dave also better ask his employer what all this "contributing" is doing to their competitive position on the world market. In Japan, China, all of Europe, the employers do not have to factor in healthcare costs as part of their cost of doing business, one of the reasons they clobber us. The main thing national health insurance does is eliminate all the duplication of services by a thousand different private administration structures, and the thousands, if not millions of people, who have to go to the emergency for treatment. The resultant savings allows extension of benefits to the poor. If individuals want more coverage, they can contract with private companies over and above what the minimal national policy provides. And employers can get out of the healthcare business and concentrate on their own business instead of running a healthcare company.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
