It seems like Vijay and I might both be thinking about the older scoring systems, and maybe neither of us know as much as your HS counselor, but I think both of us know how to "play the game" if you will please forgive that expression.
Vijay made a very good point that I completely forgot about - the 6 year program! Not all universities that also have medical schools do this, but what it boils down to is this scenario:
1) You start out as a freshman in college.
2) After 2-3 years, you apply for admission to that school's medical school.
3) If accepted, you skip your last few semesters of undergraduate work, and enter medical school as a 1st year student.
4) When you finish medical school, they give you both degrees!
Since you are already planning to become a physician, I would encourage you to find out which colleges with medical schools do this. Heck, the University of Michigan might! That would be perfect for you.
Lastly, I think UM's medical school ranks pretty highly among all of the other state-sponsored medical schools.
