Exclamation Cruise Control In The Rain

I had just received this from my lil sister, today, via email... who had it forwarded to her.

Had never heard of this before... until today, so I don't know how true this is.

Maybe some of you have heard of it.

Here is is --- It has to do with not using your cruise control while driving in the rain:

Lorena
Apollo Beach, FL
1992 500SL

Have you ever heard about this one? I wonder how many people know about this? A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and Totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore , Texas , she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON. She had thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain. But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on and your car begins to hydro-plane -- when your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred. The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed - but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry. The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries. If you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn't know about this, then it was all worth it. You might have saved a life.
NOTE: Some vehicles when the windshield wipers are on, you can not set the cruise control. Like the Toyota Sienna

Limited XLE is one of them.

I was driving with my cruise control on and when I was fiddling with the radio, I ran off an overpass. As soon as my tires lost contact with the pavement, I accelerated and flew through the air landing safely on a grassy knoll below.

Trying to maintain a set speed in the rain is dangerous. Running off the road is not a good idea, either.

Blaming it on the cruise control is idiocy. When you start to hydroplane your wheels lose contact with the pavement. They don't stop spinning, you clown. They don't slow down. They have less resistance and if anything, the cruise control would ease off the throttle. Same with going "off the pavement". You may have felt as if you accelerated, but you didn't. The car was maintaining a set speed as you left the road.

(I am glad you were not hurt.)

Tap your brakes, cruise control is off.

You ran off the road. The other moron was driving too fast in the rain.

I blame George Bush.

Dave, that is good point, it may answer some LONG unanswered questions. Do you believe he could have been in Dallas in 1963, possibly hanging around a grassy knoll with a rifle? Maybe this is who Dick learned to shoot from?

Those secrets are in a vault down the hall from the remains of the aliens from Roswell.

If you rearrange the letters in "grassy knoll" you get "knossy grall" which means "Holy Grail" in Aramaic.

Read the Da Vinci code, but only every other letter on every third page.

It explains everything.

I have never used the cruise control in the rain. If you have driven on the autobahn, in the rain, and at speeds of 100MPH+, in case of aquaplaning, you don't make any sudden moves, don't touch your brakes, ease off the accelerator, keep a very very light grip on the steering wheel and keep it straight for when the standing water ends to avoid a slide. You'll be surprised how much the car will keep itself straight if you don't fight it.

I was being, somewhat, facetious.
I do admit that one of the things that padded my landing WAS that sniper holding a rifle.
