Here's da man in his S3 with the very skinny tyres. He's not a number, he's a free man!

A modern interpretation and one of my dream machines. The ariel atom. From a garage in the UK. More super than supercar performance at a price that I might one day rationalize. http://www.arielmotor.co.uk/04/frames.htm

^^^^^

The Caterham 7 is currently being made, with modern engines and suspension. It is still very competitive. But I have to agree, the Atom has a little extra something. I've only ever seen one on the road, very briefly!

The Caterham 7 is fantastic. I just meant to say that that Atom is a newcomer.

There is an Oregon company selling the Atom. Not sure about street legality yet.

It is a superbike for a guy like me.

Watch the Top Gear video.

Bikes to the rescue

The Hayabusa integral engine installation is completely unique to Super 7 Cars Inc. At the core of the Super 7’s outrageous performance, the Hayabusa offers 185 bhp at 9,750 rpm, 105 lbs/ft of torque at 6,700 rpm, and runs at a maximum rpm of 10,900. An engine upgrade to 225 bhp is optional.

The power, torque and low weight of the Hayabusa engine have pushed the Super 7 far beyond the performance barriers of the original Lotus 7s. Fitted with a 6-speed sequential gearbox, the Super 7 GSX 1300R leaps from 0 to 60 mph well under 4 seconds. ooooooooh

Would love to try out a Lotus Seven or any quality knock off. Closest I guess to one of those would be a S2000 (twitchy bitch) or a '79 or prior Brook Stevens Excalibur. The Excalibur is a genuine quality car but still slightly massive; a wonderful power slide car if there ever was one.
