Elephants stop, loot trucks on dark road

Chachoengsao
Thailand.

The chief of Khao Ang Rue Nai wants the road through the wildlife sanctuary closed at night after a herd of elephants held up and looted a string of cargo trucks. About midnight last Saturday a herd of 20 elephants blocked route No.3259 holding up 10 trucks.

They tipped some vehicles on their side, spilling the cargoes on the road so their young could eat, and gorged on sugarcane and tapioca.

''This was not an isolated incident on this road,'' said Yoo Senatham. ''Recently a pick-up truck hit an elephant.''

On Dec 19 the sanctuary office was informed by Sirichai Jitkajorntham, 40, about 8pm that he had hit a big elephant on the road, and injured the animal.

This is Elephant retribution, one was hit by a pick-up and the rest deliberated on an organised 'stick up'.

As one who has been intimate with elephants ..ahem..
they are smarter than you think.

Actually I would question the intelligence of the elephant if it "has been intimate with you".

You're absolutely correct, but I'm not going for 'smarts' these days.
A fetching pair of ears, a LARGE trunk and the possibilty of four umbrella stands is enough to sway me.
And it only takes a pineapple or a large melon to woo the cute-ist pachyderm in the herd.

PS. I won't buy anymore Bintang for you.

I think Shane has been influencing you, you are just attracted to that long truck. Don't worry about "The Star" I have not had one for years, everybody I know always has a few Coronas stashed for me if I come by.

Don't worry I will make it up with as much of the "Star" you want to drink once you make it over here again, of course I could not sully my fridge with that ilk as I keep my food there but I will ice it down for in the cooler.
