My yearly pilgrimage to the Hawaiian Islands begins tomorrow. I go once a year to hike, camp, and enjoy my digital photography hobby, and I attempt to have sex with women I meet in cheesy Honolulu lounges. Last year, I spent most of my time there on the island of Hilo, which is the largest, and most volcanically active of the islands, followed by a week-long stay in the Kahana Valley State Park on the island of Oahu, a park which borders the Green Berets Jungle Warfare Training School, and is in fact, an Asian jungle. Mountain climbing through jungle streams, wild orchids hanging from every kind of imaginable houseplant grown into a six story tree, camping on hidden beaches along the Pacific, the place is a gas. This year is going to be more photog oriented. I will be exploring the Manoa Valley area, which is famous for it's waterfalls and spectacular views. I will be bringing my new toy, my IBM x60 mini-laptop with satellite Internet, which I will wire up to a Kodak 650 6.8 megapixel digital camera, in an attempt to send you all live shots and possibly videos of what I see in real time. So get ready to enjoy my vacation!

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
