Personally, I have no problems at all with the red-light cameras because there is a correlation between them and cutting down on violations, and hence, accidents. I do have a problem with the dumb radar cameras, because all they do is bring in revenue, and most of that revenue goes to the company from whom the governments lease the equipment.
It's worth noting that there is a very strong correlation between running red (or so-called "orange") lights and being involved in serious accidents.
However, there is not a significant correlation between exceeding the posted speed limit and being involved in an accident. It is true that if you are speeding and in an accident, the damage and injuries will be worse than if you were driving slower, but speeding in and of itself (as long as it's done with some sense) rarely *causes* an accident. Of course NHTSA and the insurance industry can create conclusory statistics all they like, but the percentage relationship between reasonable speeding and causing or being involved in an accident is very, very small.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
