The old thread on this story line was started by chiphomme, who has kind of left the forum it seems and can be found at this link (the specific debate on the WMD question starts on the second or third page):
The definitive administration report on the subject of WMD was the Duelfer Report. It very clearly sought to cloud the distinction between facts and opinions, as there are clearly no facts to support the thought process in Bush's mind that Saddam had a WMD program up and running, or could even reconstitute one. You UN bashers should read the report. It clearly supports the UN conclusion that Saddam had been forced by the sanctions and the no-fly zone, to abandon, albeit reluctantly, his WMD ambitions. After that, however, the report gets into a lot of unnecessary text giving chemistry lessons on biological warfare WMD, and supposing what Saddam's intentions would be once the sanctions were lifted. It also says his interests in WMD were not to threaten the US or its interests, it was to keep Iran at bay.
The point is, no WMD were found. No WMD facilities, programs or "feed stocks" were found. There was some undefined "BW-related" feedstock found, but unfortunately it was not quantified or specifically identified in the report, so it is a dangling bit of red meat, dangling from a hook that many Bush supporters swallowed, taking the bait and now being unable to spit it back out. Those who rejected it, knowing how desperate Bush was to be vindicated, look at the bait and can only conclude that if it was significant, it would have held a central role in the report. It didn't warrant that kind of emphasis so, I just conclude it was a bit of contaminated, liar's bait. Inserted to prey on those who wanted to believe, which apparently worked. Another Jim Jones cup of Kool-Aide for the true believers. You would think he would value your loyalty more, but like most liars and thiefs, you, or the American people at large, are not in the thought process. It is all about saving George at our son's and daughter's expense - their lives and future standard of living.
